BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 7:24-27, 1 Corinthians 3:11, 1Corinthians 10:12
For any building to stand the test of time and environmental factors, it must be properly built with the right materials and to specification from foundation to roof. Buildings are mainly composed of foundation, walls and roof.
THE FOUNDATION
The foundation of a building bears and supports the weight of the entire building. The foundation of a Christian life is therefore very important. It is composed of the basic doctrines of salvation. The first set of messages/training you are given when you become born again. Some denominations puposefully put new concerts through such training in their foundational classes, and that quite right.
It includes the basic principles on which a believer builds his faith. Salvation marks the beginning of the building of a believer's faith.
1 Corinthians 6:19 "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"
Hebrews 5:12 "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat."
1 Corinthians 3:1 "And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able."
A Christian life does not start till there is the salvation of a soul.
John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name"
If a person does not properly understand and accept fundamental principles of salvation, then living a sustained healthy Christian life might be difficult. So the building (his Christian life) sure has a faulty foundation. The strength of a foundation determines the longevity of the building. It also determines the kind of building it can support. Sure trials and temptations will come your way. Without a strong foundation, you might not have ability to weather the storms.
BUILDING A STRONG CHRISTIAN FOUNDATION
To build a strong Christian life, a believer should;
1. Regularly involve in in-depth daily study of the Bible.
2. Regular and qualitative personal prayers and fellowship with God.
3. Participate in corporate Bible study and fellowship with other believers
4. Submit to total obedience to God's word.
5. Intentional choose to live a sanctified life.
Hebrews 5:12-14 "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."
1 Peter 2:1-2 "Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby"
1. Every believer is expected to to mature to become a teacher of the gospel - Hebrews 5:12.
2. Many believers are still not mature and so cannot understand or accept certain strong doctrines and teachings of the Bible - Hebrews 5:12-14, 1 Corinthians 3:2
3. To accept the strong meat of the gospel, one needs to come of age in his/her spiritual life - Hebrews 5:14
